Iron Maiden at the Forum on February 19th 2008

Iron Maiden! One of the greatest Metal bands of all time, made what was supposed to be their only stop in the West Coast on their Somewhere Back In Time World Tour on February 19. The boys along with Eddie landed at LAX around 7am aboard their own private 757 dubbed "Ed Force One". Later that night they played to 15,000 screaming fans who sold out the Los Angeles Forum. Iron Maiden opened up their set just as they did on their Live After Death tour with Winston Churchill's speech and Aces High. They played Maiden classics such as Revelations and The Trooper. A few songs later they went into all 14 minutes of Rime of the Ancient Mariner. The last time they played this song in its entirety, I was not even born yet. That is what is so great about Iron Maiden. Their music stands the test of time. They have fans of all age groups. The show was full of people who have been into Iron Maiden since their first album, to people who weren't even born when Maiden's first album came out, like myself.
Later that night, Bruce stopped to thank the fans for their support throughout all these years and to thank them for the overwhelming success of the tour and their DVD, Live After Death which was just released for the first time on DVD. Bruce then announced to the fans, that due to the success of everything, Iron Maiden had decided to come back to Southern California and play 2 back to back shows in May, along with shows in Northern California, Arizona, and New Mexico, amongst others.
Eddie finally made his appearance during Iron Maiden's signature song Iron Maiden. He came out on stage where stage hands put a Lakers jersey on him. The Lakers fans that were in the crowd cheered him on. Iron Maiden finished off their set with fan favorite Hollowed Be Thy Name.
Overall the show was spectacular. Bruce Dickinson's vocals were amazing, and soaring. Nicko's drumming is just amazing. Adrian and Dave's solos were loud and Steve Harris' bass work is just mind blowing. And who could forget about the newest Maiden member Mr. Janick Gers. He is by far one of the greatest showmen in metal today. His stage presence is so fun to watch. It's great to see the things he does with his guitar, besides shred like a god with it. He throws it around his neck, plays solos with it above his head and throws it up about 10 feet in the air! Iron Maiden by far throws one of the best shows, if not the best show, in all of metal, hell in all of music! I can't wait to see them in May. If anyone missed them this time around because it was sold out, I suggest you go out and get your tickets for the May shows early, because you are getting a second and a third chance to see them and these shows will sell out!
