Testament at the Key Club on April 12th 2008
By Jose "Diablo"
Thrash Metal veterans Testament played to a sold out Key Club this past Saturday.  The band opened up with "Over the Wall" off their debut album "The Legacy".  Immediately the pit started going and the sold out Key Club turned into a Thrash war zone.  Stage divers and crowd surfers all were all over the place.  It was 1983 all over again.  Testament fans continued to mosh during favorites like, "Electric Crown", "Souls of Black" and "In to the Pit".

Half way through the show, Testament singer Chuck Billy stopped to dedicate the song "Trail of Tears" to all his fellow Native Americans, as well as to all Americans in general.  Saying that we should all stand up for what we believe in.  The night was not only full of their great older songs.  They also threw in a few new songs off their new album "The Formation of Damnation" which is to be release on April 29th.  The new songs sounded great!  From the galloping guitars of Alex Skolnick and Eric Peterson, to the double bass pedal work of former Slayer drummer Paul Bostaph to the growling vocals of Chuck Billy.  Chuck Billy's unique way of transitioning from his deep Death Metal growl to his clean Thrash growl is amazing.  It adds an element to Testament that only Chuck Billy can bring to them.

Their new album is streaming on the bands MySpace page (for those of you who don't know what "My Space" is, ask your kids.  I'm sure they know).  I have heard it already and can say it sounds amazing.  I can't wait for it to come out so I can go out and pick up a copy.  If you are a Testament fan I suggest you pick it up.   Testament is a band that shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.  It shows in their performance that they love what they do and will continue to do it.

The show was great.  The new and old songs all sounded great.  I cannot wait to see them again later this summer.  They are scheduled to do the Metal Masters Tour later this summer, alongside Metal legends Judas Priest, Heaven & Hell, and Motorhead!  I cannot wait for that tour to roll around town.

At the end of the show Chuck Billy offered a piece of advice to all Metal Heads.  He said to support your local Metal bands and to keep Metal alive.  I agree with him.  With bands like Testament you can see why Metal is alive and doing better than ever.  Testament truly practice what they preach!
